In the context of the European Council meeting on 23 October, the leaders of the Patriots member parties reaffirm their common conviction on issues crucial to the future of our continent.
Patriots leaders are against the excessive, ideology-driven green transition and the Green Deal pushed by the European Commission. They demand real cuts in bureaucracy for businesses and plead for a drastic reduction of energy prices in Europe. Without these, Europe’s competitiveness cannot be restored. Leaders oppose legislation such as the ETS2 and demand its suspension because it would lead to higher energy prices for citizens and any new interim climate neutrality goals which would further weaken competitiveness. Patriots urge to present legislative change before the end of the year to ensure a concrete reduction of energy prices for European citizens and companies. In this context, the leaders welcome the Madrid Declaration on protecting prosperity, competitiveness and jobs adopted by the Patriots for Europe Group.
The leaders of the Patriots member parties reiterate their opposition to the failed Migration Pact and its implementation. They demand effective border protection, and the swift, effective return of those who are on the EU’s territory illegally. They continue to support innovative solutions such as the creation of platforms in third countries to stop illegal migration to the EU and to make returns more effective.
Patriots leaders continue to support the efforts of President Trump to achieve peace in Ukraine after the Russian aggression, and welcome announcements that Budapest could be the venue for future peace negotiations. This is a historic chance for peace in Europe. The EU must do everything to support this process, and not hinder it with war rhetoric.
The leaders of the Patriots member parties reiterate their view that Ukraine’s accession to the EU would pose major concerns with regard to the agriculture, labour market, and the security of the Member States. Leaders reiterate their commitment to unanimity decision-making as set out in the Treaties and demand that the Treaties are fully respected, in particular the Copenhagen criteria.
Across Europe, the time for Patriots has come. Patriots leaders congratulate member party ANO 2011 for winning the elections in the Czech Republic by a landslide, as well as Motoriste sobé, also a member party, for entering the Parliament for the first time. We wish success to Andrej Babiš in forming a patriotic government and to begin the reforms the citizens are calling for. Patriots leaders fully support their member party, Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV) led by Geert Wilders in the upcoming elections in the Netherlands, which is the only force capable of fighting mass immigration.
With the release of this statement on October 23, Patriots leaders take the opportunity to remember and pay tribute to the Hungarian heroes who, on 23 October 1956, stood up against communist oppression and fought for their nation’s freedom. Their courage and sacrifice stand as a timeless reminder that sovereignty must never be taken for granted but remains a responsibility that must always be defended.
