Press release after the Patriots.eu Leaders Summit Brussels – October 17, 2024
On Thursday 17 October, the European party Patriots.eu held its first summit in Brussels, bringing together the leaders of its member parties. This moment was historic, marking the ever-stronger influence of our political family in Europe.
Patriots.eu’s leaders discussed the issues raised at this week’s European Council. Foremost among these is the issue of migration. Contrary to the European Commission’s policy of pro- moting uncontrolled immigration, the Patriots recall that protecting the external borders of the EU is a duty, not a crime.
It was a moment to reaffirm full support for Matteo Salvini, who will be in Palermo tomorrow for a crucial hearing in the trial where he risks a six-year jail sentence for defending Italy’s borders, and therefore Europe’s.
In this respect, they agreed on the need to allow Member States to opt-out from or suspend the application of EU migration policies violating their national security or sovereignty.
The leaders of Patriots.eu also condemn the comments made by Ursula von der Leyen last week in the European Parliament to Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary, the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The President of the European Commission clearly vio- lated her obligation to sincerely cooperate with the Council.
The change we are calling for is taking shape through an increasingly strong and coordinated political family. The leaders of Patriots.eu are delighted with the recent successes of its mem- ber parties in the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, France and last weekend in Bel- gium (Flanders). More than ever, they form the first opposition party in the European Union.
