Patriots Leaders Press Statement

  • Leaders

Ahead of the European Council meeting of June 26-27, the leaders of Patriots member parties hereby demonstrate their unity and bring together their ideas and convictions regarding the party’s common goal to create peace, security and prosperity for citizens in Europe.

Patriots leaders express concern over the rising energy prices in Europe and the decline in European competitiveness. They are alarmed that, contrary to the directions set out in the Budapest Declaration on the New Competitiveness Deal, the European Commission is putting forward proposals under REPowerEU that will further increase energy prices, endanger energy security and damage Europe’s competitiveness.

The leaders note with concern the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East as a serious threat that could have grave consequences for Europe. In this context, they highlight the possible impact of the conflict on energy prices and security of supply in Europe. Patriots leaders call on the European Commission to carry out an impact assessment in this regard, and to step up actions to reduce energy prices in Europe.

The leaders reiterate their view that Ukraine’s accession to the EU would pose major concerns, as this would have unpredictable consequences, especially with regard to the agriculture, food security, labour market, and the security of the Member States.

The leaders of the Patriots member parties underline that a complete overhaul of the international and European migration system and case law is necessary. In this regard, they welcome the letter of 22 May 2025, initiated by Denmark and Italy, which marks a first step in rethinking international court practice and giving back the power to Member States on migration.

On the issue of defence, Patriots leaders reiterate their position in favour of strengthening the defence capabilities and industries of Member States. They underline, however, that this must be based on national competences, and the European Commission cannot use this as a pretext to further centralize power and undermine Member States’ sovereignty.

Patriots leaders express concerns regarding the European Semester and its country specific recommendations. They regard this practice as another tool of the European Commission to overstep its powers and interfere excessively in the economic and budgetary policies of the Member States. As the Danish presidency to the Council approaches, the leaders reaffirm their rejection of the idea of joint borrowing and common debt, which violates the sovereignty of Member States.

The leaders are of the view that the Mercosur agreement is unacceptable, as it does not take into account the interests of European farmers. Patriots will always stand by our farmers.

Patriots stand strong in defending Member States’ sovereignty and against the centralizing efforts of the European Commission. The era of bad decisions by the Brussels bureaucracy must end. As the leading opposition party, Patriots are more determined than ever to bring change in Brussels and all over Europe.
