  • Foreign Policy

On Thursday 19th of December, the European political party Patriots.eu held its second summit in Brussels in the context of the European Council meeting.

The leaders of the Patriots.eu member parties congratulated Santiago Abascal, the leader of the Spanish VOX party, for being elected President in the General Assembly of the party held in Paris on the 16th of November 2024.

Patriots.eu leaders underlined the pressing need to strengthen European competitiveness. The failed policies of Brussels must be rectified. In this regard, they welcomed the efforts by the Hungarian Presidency to restore the EU’s economy and competitiveness by boosting innovation, simplifying regulations and achieving industrial and energy prosperity.

They welcomed, in particular, the commitment to deliver a competitive and cost-efficient agricultural sector. Patriots.eu will always be on the frontline in order to defend farmers from damaging environmental regulations, excessive bureaucracy and unfair competition. Our farmers deserve more than that. In this regard, the leaders of Patriots.eu acknowledged the recent conclusions of the 27 EU agriculture ministers on a farmer-focused future Common Agricultural Policy, adopted under the leadership of the Hungarian Presidency.

Leaders also reiterated their demand for a stricter migration policy. They welcomed the adoption of the Political Declaration by the Patriots for Europe Group for a stricter EU migration policy at the Budapest study days. In line with the declaration, leaders of Patriots.eu called for the strong protection of EU external borders and zero tolerance towards illegal entries.

The leaders expressed serious concern over the allegations of corruption and money laundering surrounding the former Justice Commissioner, Didier Reynders. They called to urgently address the political implications of this case and other cases on EU institutions. Once again, this matter proves that the real rule of law problems lies in the EU institutions, in Brussels.
